Photonic Structures

Photonic Structures

Laser fabricated photonic structures are used to tailor the optical properties of any material. This includes manipulation of the absorption spectra for metamaterials, selective absorber applications, phocathodes, solar photovoltaics and thermophotovoltaic.

Fabrication is based on controlled surface laser macro-nanostruring, direct laser writing and 3D laser printing. Structuring includes self-organized nanostructures and microstuctures as well as direct laser scribing and selective annealing. These processes are based on the interaction of femtosecond and nanosecond lasers with samples, coupled with automation.

In addition to improved optical properties, these photonic structures can be tuned to also have improved wetting properties. This allows the development of superhydrophobic and water repellent surfaces that mimic the behavior of the most water repellent surfaces in nature (biomimicry).
